Today I arrived in a very beautiful land, an island that was deeply foreign to me and deeply beautiful. I tend to joke about California (I mean, “c’mon, straws, Cali?”). It’s an easy target for me to tease, and as a Texan born and raised the state exists almost in an “uncanny valley” of sorts.
That said, Catalina has been beautiful. It looks like something from the Greek archipelago rather than the United States. It’s far cooler than the blistering Austin, who as I so dearly love, was killing me in the heat. It’s far more easy to breath as well, as the mixture of baking heat and variable plants makes for a wave of humidity and allergens. The fresh, cool ocean air comes like a refresher, making it easier to breather and more accessible to just go outside.
Catalina has been a very enjoyable place thus far, and I look forward to indulging and explore this island more.
